UTM questions, answered
What does a UTM link do?
UTM tags describe a link’s source, medium and campaign. An analytics setup on the destination website can use them to report referred visits. Creating a tagged link alone does not install analytics or measure a conversion.
Will this builder keep the parameters already in my link?
Yes. It keeps unrelated parameters, including repeated keys, and the fragment after #. It replaces the seven UTM fields offered here. Leaving an optional field empty removes its old value. Review and test the final destination before sharing it, especially if the original URL is signed.
Are UTM values case-sensitive?
Yes. Instagram and instagram can appear as different sources. This tool preserves your spelling by default. Turn on lowercase + underscores if that matches your team’s naming convention; the preview shows the exact values.
Where do I see campaign traffic in GA4?
Use the Traffic acquisition report and its session source, medium and campaign dimensions. Data depends on your site’s analytics configuration and collection settings. This builder cannot verify whether your site is tracking visits.
Can I use tags for names or email addresses?
Keep personal information out of campaign tags. URLs can be visible to visitors and recorded by other services. Use a campaign or placement label instead, such as summer_launch or bio_link.
